SWS Virtual Learning

Your Southwest School Resource to Virtual Learning!

To support online learning from home while in-class teaching is suspended, please use this page as a resource for PreK—12th grade. Provided here is valuable information to help keep students engaged and committed to learning!

While the district is closed in an effort to protect our community from the spread of COVID-19, we expect our students to continue learning at home with the remote support of our teachers and support personnel.

Students will receive direct communication and instruction from their teachers through a virtual (online) learning platform and/or teacher developed packets. Each campus in the district will communicate with families the virtual platform that will be utilized campus wide. Through the platform, parents/guardians/students can find support videos, documents and resources. The school’s virtual platform and other instructional software programs can be accessed online through ClassLink.

Teachers will communicate directly with families and students with specific information regarding their classes and required lessons for students. Resources will be updated frequently for families to access additional activities to support the lessons assigned by their teachers. It is important for parents and caregivers to monitor this work so that learning is on-going as we wait to re-open schools.

This plan includes three parts: communication, technology, and content delivery for virtual learning.

Scholastic partnered with Yale on an Early childhood program that will be released in the fall that is how the collaborative was born. During this unprecedented time we wanted to use this partnership to help families directly.  This crisis has caused many families stress, anxiety, and fear.  In some cases families are coping with violence, food insecurity, and children behaviors.  This site provides a direct email to Yale clinicians that will support and respond to families, district personnel, and others.

Tip for the FREE SITE:  If you click on the lessons that are free from grades prek-5, and select a Weston woods book, you can click on the house on the top left corner, and you will have 218 books for free, in English and Spanish and animated.  They are paired fiction and non-fiction. www.scholastic.com/learnathome
