The Phoenix School provides high-quality education in multiple Houston-area Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs).
We recognize that students in RTCs often exhibit some of the following educational characteristics, which include:
- Poor school attendance
- Grade retention
- Reading and math achievement below grade level
- Gaps in high school credits
- Difficulty passing TAKS
- Attitudes of indifference toward traditional school settings
- History of school discipline issues including suspensions and expulsions

- Small classroom environment focusing on individualized instruction with an average student teacher ratio of 10 to 1 delivered by certified teachers
- Individualized instruction accommodates students who enter at various times of the year and with a wide range of educational and behavioral needs
- Computer lab at each location providing a computer-based curriculum designed to supplement classroom instruction as well as provide an opportunity for credit recovery
- Southwest School collaborate with each facility administrator to “tailor” the residential program to meet the needs of the students and faculty
- Professional educational staff is a part of the active treatment team for each individual student
- Transition services include assisting the student/family with appropriate educational placement upon discharge from the facility
- The option to run the school program on a traditional school calendar of 175 days of instruction or a calendar that includes summer programming
- Collaboration with the facility to manage federal funding earned by students attending residential facilities
