College & Career Planning

Southwest Schools has a College Specialist whose goal is to support and guide students in their college, career, and post-graduate plans.  Regardless of your ideas, it is important that you have a plan, and the Specialist is here to help.

As students plan for college, there are many important deadlines to keep in mind.  Our Specialist helps prepare students by keeping them aware of pending/important dates.  The Specialist also provides special guidance based on their grade level:


Seniors:

  • Focus on achieving good grades!
  • Review your transcript with Mrs. Green and ensure you are on the right track to graduate
  • Register to take the SAT a second time in your Fall semester
  • Attend dual credit classes
  • Apply and complete all college applications before the Fall semester ends
  • Research and apply for scholarships
  • Apply for financial aid in the Spring semester
  • Follow up with colleges to ensure they have received all necessary paperwork for admissions and financial aid

Juniors:

  • Focus on achieving good grades!
  • Review your transcript and classes with Mrs. Green
  • Make a list of at least 3 colleges you would like to attend
  • Register to take the SAT in the Spring semester
  • Research and apply for scholarships available to Juniors
  • Attend dual credit classes if you qualify to take them

Sophomores:

  • Focus on achieving good grades!
  • Take the PSAT (Practice SAT Test) administered by the school
  • Visit colleges you are interested in attending

Freshmen:

  • Focus on achieving good grades! Remember, every grade counts towards your high school average
  • Begin having discussions with your parents about colleges you would be interested in attending
